That’s the beauty of the mix tape: it required you to sort and rank and chose. Songs that you enjoyed and loved did not make the cut in favor of songs you loved more.
Before I even became a father I knew that my children would never have two of my favorite childhood experiences:
- Spending hours in front of a dual cassette stereo system making mix tapes.
- Sitting down at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning with an actual paper TV Guide planning out what cartoons to watch.
And that makes me sad.
